South Africa vs West Indies preview

A stable but choking South Africa will take on the unpredictable West Indies in their opening match in the ICC 2011 world Cup Cricket. This year South Africa is tagged as one of the favorite to win the ultimate crown of the ODI Cricket.

South Africa always remains a balanced team with their pace bowling the main weapon not to mention their fielding which had always been the bench mark for the other teams.

Under the aggressive leadership of Graeme Smith who himself is a very good opening batsman both in test and one day cricket, his opening partner Hashim Amla is in very good form to be followed by one of the greatest all rounder the game has seen ever Jacques Kallis. Middle order consists of AB de Villiers, Albie Morkel
Their bowling department is full of fast bowlers, perhaps presently the best pace attack in the world in the hands of Dale Steyn , Lonwabo Tsotsobe and Morne Morkel. Spinner Botha is also good in checking flow of runs.

Meanwhile West Indies who is always famous for making unpredictable results will depend heavily upon their opening batsman and former captain Chris Gayle known for hard hitting. Other batsman who can turn matches single handed in their own day are Kieron Pollard, Darren Bravo, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul.

Their bowling department is mainly packed with pacers not so effective but not bad at all with the pace and accuracy of Darren Sammy, Kemar Roach and Jerome Taylor.
The match will take place at Feroz Shah Kotla, New Delhi. Last match played here between India and Sri Lanka was abandoned due to bad wicket. So ICC is looking forward about how the wicket behaves this time. Chances for South Africa and West Indies is 65: 35.

Pakistan vs Kenya on GEO Super, SABC, ESPN

Pakistan will begin their World Cup campaign with a game against Kenya in the World Cup on February 23, 2011 at Hambanthota. The match will begin a 2:30 pm local, 9 GMT.

Pakistan will start their campaign in the ICC 2011 world cup against Kenya on 23rd Feb 2011 at Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium, Hambantota. Pakistan will try to overcome the match fixing controversy by showing good display of both batting and bowling against a mere weak Kenya. Pakistan is always an unpredictable team and Kenya too has the capabilities to make an upset like they did against the West Indies in World cup previously. The batting line up the Pakistan though is strong but it looks most of the time fragile on the field and it is their bowling strength that always helps them to make comeback in most of the matches.

Controversial bowler Akthar is not fit for this match and their pace attack will rely on the rather new bowlers like Riaz, Umar Gul and all rounder Razzak. Their batting will depend upon the performance of Younis Khan, Misbah Ul Haq and Umar Akmal. Captain Sahid Afridi who holds the world record for the fastest century in ODI history will also look upon to bank this opportunity to score some quick runs.
For Kenya, they will rely heavily on their opening pair and average but controlled pace bowling attack. It is expected that Kenya will do brilliant fielding as African nations are known for.

Team winning the toss will look forward to bat first as in Sri Lanka it becomes difficult to chase runs under lights.

Australia V Zimbabwe 2011 ICC match analysis

World Champion Australia started their campaign to win their fourth consecutive ICC world Cup 2011 against Zimbabwe today on 21st Feb. 2011. The batting by Australia was not as explosive as everyone would expect against a mere weak team. The unfortunate run out of the skipper Ponting resulted slow progress of the innings which is again contrast to the trend of fast and high scoring matches usually when played in India. Opening Batsman Shane Watson carried his good form by scoring 79 runs of 82 balls. Vice captain Michael Clarke also started getting back his golden touch by scoring a quick fire of 58 runs of 55 balls. Australia managed to score 262 runs in 50 overs thanks to some late hitting by the batsman in quick successions.
In reply Zimbabwe started their innings very cautiously but could not manage something that would make them feel proud of against the current world champions. The perfect display of fast bowling by the Aussie pacers resulted frequent breakthrough and none of the Zimbabwe batsman was comfortable against the fiery Aussie pace attack. They were struggling at 104 for the lost of 7 wickets and now only waiting for time to wrap up the innings. A huge win will definitely boost the morale of the Aussie.

Australia, begin their title defence with a match against Zimbabwe at Motera in Ahmedabad. But in the first ODI match in the ICC Cricket World Cup, Zimbabwe coach has made it clear that they are in no way overawed by its reputation. The Aussies have a fine batting line-up in which Shane Watson and Ponting are crucial in the top order to lay the platform for others to build upon. Ponting, whose fabulous innings of 140 not out in 121 balls in the 2003 World Cup final buried Indian hopes, has come back into action after a long injury lay-off following a broken little finger sustained during the Ashes series against England. Brad Haddin looked rusty initially, though he settled down to play lovely lofted drives and sweeps off the spinners.

Teams:

Australia: Shane Watson, Brad Haddin (wk), Ricky Ponting (capt), Michael Clarke, Callum Ferguson, David Hussey, Cameron White, Tim Paine (wk), Steven Smith, John Hastings, Mitchell Johnson, Jason Krejza, Brett Lee, Shaun Tait, Doug Bollinger.
